The IOC (International Olympic Committee) on the occasion of the 142nd international congress of the Committee which is taking place in Paris (France), a few days before the start of the 2024 Games, officially approved the creation of the Olympic Esports Games.
23 July 2024 has become a historic date for the Esports sector, the president of the IOC, Thomas Back, commented on the milestone achieved, defining this as a new era for the IOC and that they are one step away from the digital revolution.
We also remind you that on 12 July 2024, the IOC announced that it had established a Partnership with the National Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia (NOC) to host the first edition of the Olympic Esports Games which will be held in 2025 in Saudi Arabia, if it had been approved, which occurred on July 23rd.
The partnership between IOC and NOC will last 12 years, although it is not yet known whether the event will take place every 4 years.
Meanwhile in Italy, the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) has also begun to take its first steps, in fact it announced the recognition of the Italian Esports Federation as a "Meritable Association", a small but important step towards the recognition of Esports in Italy .
